Manteca Cemetary's License Revoked by State

MANTECA, CA - The father of Manteca, Joshua Cowell, and other pioneers are buried there. But the East Union Cemetery in Manteca will require a lot of work before its operating license is resurrected. This week the state revoked the cemetery's operating license. "We've tried to work with people running the cemetery but it just hasn't worked out," said Kevin Flanagan, a spokesman for the Department of Consumer Affairs.

Butte contractors probed

State and local officials are combing Butte County for illegal contractors looking to profit from the region's recent fires. Officials from the Contractors State License Board, the Butte County district attorney and the state Department of Insurance are looking for unlicensed operators doing anything from demolition to roof repair to rebuilding. None has been found in Butte County so far, board spokeswoman Pamela Mares said, "but we know they're out there."

Contractors State License Board Warns Of Paving Scam

Authorities are searching for an unlicensed contractor accused of ripping off customers from San Diego to central California. George Stanley, 28, of Moosup, Conn., was arrested on several felony charges related to a paving scam last week but posted bail. Cosmetologist accepts judge's deal
A San Jose cosmetologist pleaded no contest to 11 felony and misdemeanor charges for conducting illegal plastic surgery and assisting a man who disfigured several victims while performing surgery without a license.

Unlicensed Auto Body Repair Shop Owner Busted for Fraud
A Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) investigation led to the arrest Wednesday of
the owner of Sunny Body and Paint, an unregistered auto body repair shop in Pomona.
Jose Luis Escobedo, 51, of Pomona, is accused of defrauding both consumers and
insurers, in addition to operating without a license.
