Why Hire a Licensed Professional?

As California continues to grow, so does the demand for licensed, professional service providers. Unfortunately, that demand attracts unlicensed, unqualified and dishonest service providers as well.

The State of California requires all service providers to be licensed. This license is granted to only those service professionals who meet the minimum education, training and skill requirements of their industry. Unlicensed service providers do not meet these requirements, undercut the business of the licensed professionals, and are breaking the law!

An unlicensed service provider:

  • may not be able to pass a background check
  • may not have the necessary skills and abilities to pass the licensing exam
  • may not have the education, experience or skill to do the job correctly
  • may not follow acceptable standards or codes of conduct
  • may not have the financial resources to complete the job
  • may not offer recourse to dissatisfied customers
  • may not protect the consumer's health and safety
  • may not pay fair wages to their employees
  • may not meet workers' compensation requirements
  • may not meet insurance requirements
  • may be committing fraud
  • may have had a license revoked
  • may be unaware of licensing laws
  • may be unaware of how to obtain a professional license
  • may not be able to meet the financial requirements of licensure

Despite aggressive efforts, no government agency has been able to stop all unlicensed activity. Consumers who hire licensed professionals protect themselves from becoming victims of unlicensed business practices and are the best defense against unlicensed business activity.
